How to help gold fish who skin has been dried out after jumping out of tank and is covered in a white film???

I found my goldfish after about 20mins (i think) on the carpet, still alive. I placed it back in the tank and revived it. Now it has a clear white film on the side that was on the carpet, it looks painfull, and it is very quiet. Can the skin grow back at all, is this film a protective cover?? Anyone's help would be great. Thanks. DHow to help gold fish who skin has been dried out after jumping out of tank and is covered in a white film???
Luckily, your goldfish is still alive. It demonstrated one of the most important reasons why you should have a cover on your tank.

You might also be wondering why your fish jumped out of the tank in the first place. Fish generally do this as a way to escape toxic water. The ammonia level in your tank water was/is most likely preventing the fish from being able to breathe. Goldfish excrete massive amounts of waste which toxify the water with ammonia. CHECK YOUR AMMONIA LEVEL!! If you don't have an ammonia test kit, take a sample of your tank water to a local fish shop and have them test the water for you. While you're there, purchase an ammonia test kit. Ammonia must be 0ppm for your fish to breathe easily.

You really need to perform a 25% - 33% partial water change NOW if you haven't already. Make sure you treat the tap water with conditioner drops to neutralize both chlorine and/or chloramine. Do your best to match the temp to the water in your tank.

If you have a tank heater, I would recommend raising the water temp to about 78F, and adding a teaspoon of aquarium salt (NOT table salt) per gallon of water.

The protective slime coating was not doubt damaged, but your fish may survive if you act quickly and get the water parameters in line. And get a cover for your tank, too.How to help gold fish who skin has been dried out after jumping out of tank and is covered in a white film???
get some antibacterial medication and get a lid one your tank.
The same thing happened to my fish and i thought it would clear up but it totally changed color and its all white now but he is fine and has been alive for awhile after.
how sad and it is still alive poor fish. and the white film thats on the fish it's just something the body put's out when being out of the tank.
Hi,

I am so sorry bout your betta! I would recommend adding melafix and pimafix to the water to treat any infections/fungal issues he might have. They have it at Walmart for about 5 bucks a bottle.

Hope This Helps! :)
get 2 small plecos or snails and condition the water.....if this doesn't help...leave the fish alone. feed it but leave it by itself....if it survives or not......god can only decide
Use the little fishy as bait to catch a new one for a pet.
Sounds like your fish caught a bacterial infection or fungus! Try replacing about 1/4 of the water in its tank, and adding a small amount of salt to the water. If that doesn't work, buy some over-the-counter fungus or bacteria drops to add to the tank. Good luck!
