What are the effects of tanning regularly in a tanning bed on the skin of your body?

It's very clear that you're face soon becomes dry and leathery. It's guarunteed that you'll ruin your skin with repeated exposure to all those harmful rays.

But do they actually have a noticeable effect on your body, like there is with your face?

When I think of someone who has been tanning for years, I see a tan wrinkly, dry face but just a regular tanned body.

Just wondering.

Thanks! What are the effects of tanning regularly in a tanning bed on the skin of your body?
My neighbor had a tanning bed, she looked like a big piece of leather from tanning all the time.

You also have to worry about skin cancer. What are the effects of tanning regularly in a tanning bed on the skin of your body?
I tan starting 2 weeks before sunny vacations. I haven't noticed any negative effects. But I've done this twice now and I'm 25. Try to have a small area on your body not tan so you can see your progress. I think the very dark leather skin tanners are never satisfied with there level of tan and they overdo it.
I would go to the tanning bed a lot and got white spots all over my stomach and lower back. I heard that selsun blue removes the spots but I haven't been able to get rid of them. Tanning beds do cause a lot of damage that you will see later on in life.
The same terrible effect is produced on the body as on the face. The difference you see is due to the fact that face is more exposed to the environment and sun damage in general and that's why it shows more damage.
The body's skin isn't as sensitive. And cancer is not always on the outside. If the person has a mole that is being deformed it could be cancerous
Very good question. There is ongoing research on the effects of UV exposure (outside or indoors). Recent studies are indicating that moderate exposure to UV increases Vitamin D production which helps prevent internal cancers as well as prevents melanoma. Yes, prevents melanoma! The key to tanning is to avoid overexposure. This would mean burning/reddening or tanning on a daily basis for long extended periods of time. Your skin has a natural process when exposed to UV, so let it do it's thing!

Using a professional tanning product will not only accelerate your tanning process but will nourish your skin with antioxidants to counteract the aging of the skin. The affects of UV exposure and the aging of skin is without question, but if one takes proper skin care you can mitigate those affects.

With regards to face versus body, the reason your face ages faster is because the face is exposed to the environment much much more than your body skin. And with all the tiny muscles and movements in the face throughout a lifetime, the likelihood of aging is faster.

Someone mentioned white spots on stomach -- this is caused by a fungus that lives on all of our skin called tinae versicolor. The heat from tanning increases the growth of the fungus. And yes, selsun blue which contains selenium will kill that fungus. The fungus is technically in the dandruff family, this is why selsun blue works.

I'm going to provide you with a link for you to look up information. Please check it out. I want you to know that it is a pro-tanning website, which is of course backed by the tanning industry as a whole. Keep in mind that information from anti-tanning sources are usually paid for by companies like Neutrogena, Jergens, Johnson%26amp;Johnson, because they want you to buy their bronzer lotions. So you will have to make your own informed decision on what's right for you, which can sometimes be difficult sifting through the information that is out there. Good luck.

For me, the bottom line is moderate exposure provides one of the greatest nutrients, Vitamin D, which you cannot get as much from supplements or food, and the benefits greatly outweigh the risk.
