What happens to tattoo colors when skin tans from sunlight?

I'm getting a tattoo on my forearm, and my skin is fairly tan (definitely not pale), but in the summer my skin usually tans very easily, even though I don't go to the beach or work outdoors or anything. Tanning skin does not change ink at all! But the tanning of your skin makes the surface in which the tattoo are place darker and the transparency of the tattoo ink causes the colors to look darker. Yes, tattoo inks are somewhat transparent. That is why the only colors that show on very dark skinned people are dark colors. Bright colors do not show on dark skin as some may think. The dark skin gives every tattoo ink color a darker hue.

Sun and tattoos don't mix very well. Think of old sailor tattoos that have faded to some kind of navy blue from time in the sun. If you're going to be in the sun with your tattoo, protect it as much as possible. Long sleeved shirts in dark colors work best, but use at least spf 15 on your tattoo and reapply often!
I don't know where these guys come up with their answers ,but I have tattoos on forearm and both shoulders.I ride my motorcycle(with sleevless shirts) and I'm 65 and no faiding. Why would you get a tattoo then cover it up with a dark shirt?
they get faded %26amp; places with tattoos burn easier so even if u don't usually get sunburns u might start getting burned where the tat is so yeah put sunscreen on
I got in a tanning bed after getting my first 2 tattoo's (after they healed of course) and never had a problem with fading.... if you put too much sunscreen on the tattoo and don't put any on the rest of your body then you will be tan everywhere except where your tattoo is and it will be a light colored patch of skin (would look awkward) so i would say not to worry too much about it, and if it does happen to fade (which i don't think it will) then you can always go and have your tattoo touched up.
